Qatar Shell GTL Limited
Location: London, London, United Kingdom
The Shell Group has been at the forefront of the natural gas industry for more than 40 years and we have an unrivalled global position in natural gas amongst private energy companies. We’re the world's largest equity producer of liquefied natural gas and hold a leading position in the key natural gas markets of Europe, Asia-Pacific and United States. As the world searches for greener forms of energy, we expect demand for natural gas - the cleanest hydrocarbon - to double over the next two decades, and are well positioned to capture growth opportunities.
In July 2006, Qatar Petroleum and the Shell Group launched the world-scale integrated Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) project, the largest energy project ever executed in Qatar.
The Pearl GTL project includes the development, transporting and processing of offshore natural gas resources in Qatar’s North Field to extract natural gas liquids and ethane, and the conversion of the remaining gas into clean liquid hydrocarbon products through the construction of the world’s largest integrated GTL complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City. These clean liquid products and fuels comprise naphtha, GTL fuel, normal paraffins, kerosene and lubricant base oils.
The project demonstrates our commitment to help Qatar realise its ambition to become the GTL capital of the world, and for Shell to remain a leader in the emerging GTL industry.
